About MarCEC

The Marine and Coastal Ecosystems Centre – MarCEC aims at developing practical and sustainable solutions for our unique coastal and marine environment, undertaking environmental research to build an economically and environmentally sustainable future in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

To achieve this, MarCEC will be taking a holistic approach, working in parallel with the other CMMI Centres in monitoring the condition of our marine environment, while conducting at the same time proactive applied research to develop practical solutions  to  the  challenges  that  coastal  and   marine ecosystems face, including the understanding of ecological processes, focusing on vulnerable/priority species and habitats as well as the development and management of Marine Protected Areas. Moreover, it will support the national agenda on Marine Spatial Planning in cooperation with respective authorities and stakeholders.
