Nikhil Thomas is a marine biologist specialising in the application of underwater photogrammetry in marine ecosystem monitoring. He received his Masters degree from a joint masters program hosted by eleven leading European Institute under the title “International Masters of Science in Marine Biological Resources (IMBRSea)”. He was also awarded the prestigious Erasmus+ Scholarship for the year 2021-2023.
During his masters he worked with the team ‘LABAR’ at the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Brazil, in validating a visual protocol to assess the habitat preference of an invasive coral ‘Tubastraea coccinea’. He also gained experience in diving, manufacturing and deployment of artificial reef units and community engagement while working with various NGOs, government institution, private companies and independent researchers in India.
