Zero Emission Sea Transporter

Key Information

Total project cost: € 557,324.00

Total project funding: € 447,928.00

Duration: 01/02/2023 – 31/01/2025

Project challenge & objective:

The overall objective of ZEST is to construct a zero-emissions vessel to address the decarbonisation challenges of the local coastal fleet of Cyprus. We envision that a realistic solution for short-sea routes is a fully electric vessel where batteries are charged from RES monitored and controlled by an innovative power and energy management system coupled with its digital twin. The project’s main outcome will be a testbed and a proof that such design & build activities are possible in Cyprus, using national knowhow of industrial and research organisations.

Role of CMMI:

The role of CMMI as Host Organisation is to undertake the overall coordination of the project and ensure its timely, high-quality and successful delivery, including  its technical development, demonstration, dissemination  and commercialisation aspects, while satisfying the reporting and performance indicators set by the Research and Innovation Foundation. CMMI is responsible for the technoeconomic assessment of the proposed retrofits and the development of a software platform for the environmental footprint monitoring based on life-cycle analysis.
