The Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI) invites applications for the recruitment of qualified applicants for the position of Project Manager for projects of the Marine Technology Division of CMMI, situated in Cyprus. The employment period is a fixed-term two-year contract, with the possibility of renewal.

The Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute:

The CMMI is a non-profit, research, innovation and technology development organisation established in Cyprus, supported by EU funds via the Teaming program, as well as the Government of Cyprus and established industry stakeholders. The CMMI pulls together expertise from local universities and industry and international partners. To date, the CMMI has attracted more than EUR 10m of competitive funding for Research, Innovation and Technology Development projects across 30 EU-funded, national, and other collaborative projects with renowned partners.

The Marine Technology Division brings together scientists dealing with Maritime Digitalisation, Marine Robotics and Marine & Offshore Science, Engineering and Energy. They receive support from the Research & Innovation Support Unit (RISU) for the implementation of projects.

Candidate profile:

For new EU-funded projects under the Horizon Programme, we seek a Project Manager who, under the supervision of the Project Coordinator, will lead and coordinate impactful projects that advance their disciplines beyond the state-of-the-art and build capacity for researchers in Cyprus. The candidate will have the unique opportunity to work with the project’s partners which are all leading universities and research centres in France, Belgium, Denmark, Norway, among others.

The ideal candidate should possess a strong aptitude for managing complex projects, dealing with multiple priorities and tasks concurrently, fostering stakeholder relationships, and driving innovative solutions in research-oriented organisations, with a background in any of the following: maritime technology, marine robotics, computer vision, artificial intelligence, offshore energy, naval engineering, being an advantage. The Project Manager should also ensure all contractual obligations (deliverables, milestones, reports, etc.) are met in collaboration with external partners and providers as well as internal collaborators. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the trajectory of critical digitalisation and deep tech projects of critical importance and relevance at local, national and international levels. Responsibilities:

  1. Meeting &Staff exchange Planning and Coordination: Plan and coordinate meetings, take minutes, and ensure follow-up actions. Plan, organise and supervise the implementation of incoming and outgoing staff exchanges with partners and colleagues.
  2. Stakeholder engagement, Dissemination Events and Meetings: Conduct and manage stakeholder engagement and dissemination meetings to maintain and develop professional relationships. Support the successful organisation of events such as Summer Schools, Scientific Conferences, Hackathons, etc.
  3. Project Management: Oversee the proper implementation of projects, ensuring delivery is on time and within budget and at the expected level of quality. Act as the central ‘go-to’ person for the projects, building and maintaining strong working relationships to get things done quickly and efficiently.
  4. Research Infrastructure Management: Conduct assessment of current research infrastructure and equipment, proceed with creating official documents and following procedures for procurement of equipment; Support the continuous management of the research infrastructure set up as part of the projects.
  5. Communication and Reporting: Lead project communication strategies for efficient engagement. Communicate deadlines, provide direction to the team, and offer regular and concise updates to the wider team and stakeholders. Prepare materials and contents for the production of banners, posters, brochures, webinars/seminars, etc.
  6. Timeline and Risk Management: Create and track project timelines, identify potential risks, and develop contingency plans.
  7. Cost Management and Control: Track and control project and product costs to ensure budget compliance and desired product margins.
  8. Quality Assurance: Ensure all project documentation, deliverables, and processes meet quality standards.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant discipline. A degree in Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or relevant fields will be considered an advantage. A Master’s degree is preferable.
  • Ability to research, understand, and contribute to R&D/R&I matters.
  • Work experience in project implementation and/or grant application writing
  • Ability to present and write in the English language

Advantageous:

  • Experience in managing and successfully delivering complex projects.
  • Experience with leading or contributing to the development of proposals for grants.
  • Experience in tracking and controlling project and product costs, ensuring budget compliance, and financial viability.
  • Skilled in using grant management systems (e.g., Horizon, RIF platforms) and familiar with MS Excel and other project management software.
  • Proven leadership and mentorship capabilities within a project management role.
  • Familiarity with the EU funding landscape, especially in maritime technology or related fields.
  • ⁠Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification
  • Proven experience in managing EU-funded R&D/R&I projects in EU programs such as Horizon 2020, Horizon Europe, Digital Europe, EDF
  • Experience in R&D/R&I project coordination is a plus.
