Project challenge & objective: 

DesirMED aims to strengthen knowledge and capabilities of regions and communities in the Mediterranean in order to take leadership and ownership in their transformative climate change adaptation pathways and accelerate the implementation of transformative solutions required to increase their resilience over the longterm. DesirMED will offer innovative portfolios approach for the implementation of regional adaptation agendas. Nature based solutions will be prioritized, together with innovative technologies and inclusive social practices. DesirMED will increase ambition, ownership and capability of regional Mediterranean leaders and communities through proven transformative climate change adaptation approaches. Recognising that successful adaptation generally occurs at local and regional levels, DesirMED involves a multilevel set of actors in 5 Demonstrating regions and 3 Replicating Regions working hand-in-hand with scientific partners to foster holistic approaches to implement transformative adaptation. DesirMED, by engaging at the regional level key institutions in a multi-level governance framework, will act as a catalyser to trigger and accelerate the necessary action in key community systems. Overall, DesirMED will strengthen knowledge and capabilities of Mediterranean regions and communities to take leadership and ownership in their transformative climate change adaptation pathways and accelerate the implementation of transformative solutions required to increase their resilience over the long term. 

Role of CMMI:

CMMI, in close collaboration with the Cyprus Energy Agency will pilot activities to build consensus around the effectiveness of blue-green nature-based solutions and the creation of an integrated governance system for the mainstreaming of blue-green NbSs for mitigation and management of climate hazards.
