Dr Ashok Kumar is currently working as Assistant Scientist in MOSTEC division of CMMI who holds a bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering from Anna University and Ph.D. degree in the field of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering from the Department of Ocean Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM), Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. His Ph.D thesis was on ‘Hydro Elasticity of Carbon Composite propellers for marine applications’. His research interests include ship design, hydrodynamics, propellers, composite materials, motion analysis of floating structures etc. He has a sound knowledge on CFD, FEA and FSI based analysis on composite propellers and other naval structures. He has extensively contributed to several experimental works regarding resistance, propulsion, seakeeping and other hydrodynamic studies at IIT Madras. Dr Kumar has contributed extensively in proposal writings in national and international projects which were successfully funded. He has published more than 11 papers in reputed journals and conferences. During his PhD tenure he was awarded meritorious prize for poster presentation and outstanding prize model during the Int. summer school – Ocean Dreams 2019 held at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He was awarded the maiden Pyrgotelis Zoitos Prize for the year 2021 for his outstanding publication in Int. journal of Maritime Engineering by the Royal Institution of Naval Architects (U.K) and CMMI. The Royal Institution of Naval Architects, U.K has elected Dr Kumar as Asia council member in AMRINA category in May 2021.
